Wash a leaf in hot water and cut off the surface layer. Out the stripped leaf into a container, allowing the viscous yellow bitter juice to drain. After 20 minutes, weigh the sap and mix with sugar 2-3 times its mass. Leave the mixture in the sun to dry, beneath a net to keep flies away. Dry alow sugar can be given to children as a laxative in doses of 0.5g. Adults can take 1 to 2 g. Adults can follow the same process without adding sugar, which will produce a dark shapeless mass known as “bitter aloe” in doses of 0.1 to 0.2 g can be a laxative, or 0.4 – 0.5 g as a purgative. Warning: Bitter aloe should not be taken during pregnancy or under circumstances of excessive menstruation. Aloe gel and juice can trigger allergic reactions (characterised by redness and itching) on the skins of some people
